What is RSV and who is at risk?

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that infects the lungs and respiratory system. In healthy adults, it typically causes mild, cold-like symptoms. However, symptoms can be more severe, leading to more serious complications in infants, toddlers and older adults. In this population, RSV is the leading cause of pneumonia and inflammation of the lungs, called bronchiolitis.
